My Favorite Youtube Artists

YouTube is an amazing source of information. In the early days, I often watched Youtube artists and used their tutorials to learn about drawing, watercolor, and urban sketching. These are some of the channels that have taught me so much—and I still watch them today.

Mind of Watercolor

This channel covers everything from materials to painting techniques, with a strong focus on trees. One of my favorite videos is his spontaneous painting, where he demonstrates how to discover shapes within random watercolor splatters. Thanks to his channel, I’ve learned a lot about the best materials that suit my style.

Kelogsloops

One of the first YouTube channels I ever watched when learning watercolor, Kelogsloops offers instructional yet entertaining videos. The editing and cuts are fantastic, making them enjoyable to watch. It’s also inspiring to witness his growth as an artist over time.

Dan Beardshaw

Moving on to pencil drawing, this artist is based in England and is an architecture student. His style is more analytical and realistic. He posts engaging tutorials on realistic drawing and perspective. Although his approach is far from my own personal style, it’s fascinating to watch a blank piece of paper transform into a highly detailed and complex drawing.

Minnie Smalls

Most of her artwork is done with gouache, but what I love most is how she shares her journey of constant improvement as an artist. Even after reaching a certain level, there’s always room to explore and experiment with your art. She also makes vlogs, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses into the life of an artist, including the daily admin work that comes with it.

Apple Cheeks

I began exploring more “day in the life of an artist” videos when I discovered Apple Cheeks. An artist with an American-Taiwanese background, she creates a variety of content, from making and selling art to vlogs about being a content creator. Her videos provide an honest look at the challenges and realities of being a full-time artist in the digital era.

And of course… my own channel! I enjoy sharing art videos that explore Taiwan’s landscapes, along with tutorials and meditative art sessions. Here’s one where I explore Beitou.

Hope you enjoyed this selection of Youtube artists. Have a favorite? Let us know in the comments below.
